Field trip to a Science Museum

Last Friday on Jan 27, the whole 6th grade of my school went to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. We spent the whole day there and we learned about many different things.

There was a exhibit on race where we learned the advantages and disadvantages of having different skin colors. It was really interesting to read and know how race in our society is. Most of the exhibits were interactive and gave us a lot of information of many things ranging from dinosaurs to outer space. We could see the scientists working in person and what they do as their profession. There were many fossils of dinosaurs and extinct animals in the museum as well which were very interesting to look at. Something that I like was the 3d printing. We could see how everything was made and many of the things that they made could move.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences was a very educational, interactive and overall a fun experience!

Halloween

This Halloween I’m dressing up as a vampire. My costume is a dress with the colors of red and black but how did Halloween come to be what we do today?

Halloween originated from a ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. It was believed that on the day of November 1st the spirits of the dead returned to their homes and so people dressed in costumes to ward off the evil spirits. Halloween is thought to have roots in Christian beliefs and practices. This name was got from “All Hallows Eve”.  https://blogs.loc.gov/headlinesandheroes/2021/10/the-origins-of-halloween-traditions/

Something’s that I do during Halloween is trick or treating, dressing up, and carving pumpkins.  At the night of halloween you can knock on peoples doors to ask for candy. My favorite type of candy is left Twix. Lastly, there is a donation opportunity called “Just Tryin It” and you can give extra candy to the UNC Cancer Hospital for kids who can’t Trick or Treat this year.

My Name Story

In the beginning of when I was born, my parents wanted a simple name that was easy to pronounce. My parents gave a list of names to my older brother who was at the time three years old, to choose my name. He really liked the name Alice so that came to be my name.

Camp Hanes Note

Our first field trip was at an overnight camp called Camp Hanes. We stayed there for 1 night and as an assignment for LA class, we wrote letters to the counselors.

Dear Camp Hanes,
I just wanted to let you know that I had an amazing experience at your camp. You guys planned so many fun activities but my most favorite one was going hiking. There was a beautiful view at the end so the walk was worth it. The hike was also really challenging and it tested our abilities. Rock climbing was another really fun activity but it was tiring. My favorite counselor was Cammi because she was helping us in a lot of the activities. The cafeteria staff were also really amazing, they made us a whole all-you-can-eat buffet. My favorite food was chicken and Mac and cheese for lunch on the first day.

Backpack Project

In class we read a book called “Finding Someplace”. We drew a backpack that has things we would bring if a hurricane hit.

In my backpack, I added a variety of things for survival and everyday life. For example, the necessary things like water and food. I also added books to read just in case I get bored of waiting for people to rescue me. Next, I added a hairbrush and ties so I can put my hair back and the wind won’t blow it around. I also made sure to include money in my backpack so I could pay for supplies if I run out of it. In the hygiene section, I made sure to bring extra toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Just in case I get hurt, I brought a first aid kit. The next item I brought was actually because of Reesie. I remembered that she brought the important documents like birth certificates etc. So, I brought my passport just in case. For more safety things, I brought a flashlight, so I can navigate through the dark and a hand crank radio, to tune into the news. Lastly, since I have a dog, I made sure to bring food and treats. These are all the things that I put into my backpack!

This is what my backpack turned out to look like:

Book Review

Hi! This is going to be my first blog post.

I’m going to do a book review on a book that Cameron (someone from my class) made.

The book is called Spark: Book 1 The Boxes of Garliam. The book is about a girl named Tessa. She received an unexpected letter from her dead grandmother. Tessa is actually the descendent of the first keeper and she is special.
